Approval from newspaper chairs used to be newsworthy. Now they only make news when it doesn’t happen. Both journalists and the left automatically assume: Newspapers will support Democrats Just like they do the other 364 days of the year.

But let’s fast forward to the 2024 presidential election, where the news media’s impartiality is fact-checked in real time and we watch the press fail miserably.

Liberal staffers at the Los Angeles Times and the Washington Post saw their endorsement plans. Vice President Kamala Harris His presidential candidacy was canceled and the ensuing turmoil was as predictable as the usual confirmation slate. Of course they are upset. They’ve spent years claiming that Donald Trump is the devil incarnate, but even the men writing their checks don’t believe them.

Jeff Bezos, the billionaire who founded Amazon, owns the Post. HE I wrote an article for the newspaper “Most people believe the media is biased,” he said, describing how journalism has lost credibility. (Yoo.) He acknowledged part of the problem, noting: “It would be easy to blame others for our long and continuing decline in credibility.” But he didn’t. He added that rescinding the approvals was “a meaningful step in the right direction.”

Bezos probably won’t win many media friends by saying, “The lack of credibility is not unique to The Post. Our sister newspapers have the same problem.” And then I add: “The Washington Post and the New York Times win awards, but increasingly we speak only to a certain elite.”

Wapo, Trump, Harris

This approval boycott is remarkable. USA Today did the unthinkable and embraced him. A spokesperson for the newspaper reportedly told the Daily Beast that the paper will provide readers with “important facts and the reliable information they need to make informed decisions.” The Tampa Times also joined in on the fun. The era when newspapers openly voiced their prejudices may be ending before our eyes.

Here are three more reasons for the left-wing media frenzy:

WASHINGTON POST MISSED WHITE HOUSE CONFIRMATION, BUT LIBERAL TENDENCY IN THE SENATE AND ASSEMBLY STILL EMBRACES

bow to trump

Journalists at both papers threw a collective tantrum over the canceled endorsements, and others in their field were there to support them. NPR’s David Folkenflik asked if news organizations were “pulling punches to appease Trump.” “The wealthy owners of The Washington Post and LA Times just surrendered to Trump,” said MSNBC opinion editor Jarvis DeBerry. Vanity Fair warned that billionaires “fear Donald Trump’s revenge.” And Slate paraphrased the Post’s slogan: “Democracy’s Death in Darkness.”

CNN’s reliable Trump hater “The appearance of bowing to Trump would do real and lasting harm to any organization that does not identify as pro-Trump,” Brian Stelter wrote in a special newsletter called Reliable Sources. Bowing to Trump means not giving full support to his opponent.

Journalists think their bosses “bowed to Trump” because they believed he would win. Journalists are afraid that the bosses are right.

FAR FEW NEWSPAPERS SUPPORT HARRIS THAN CLINTON OR BIDEN.

I’m Going to the Postman

This decision further frightened the media, as the Post was headquartered in the nation’s capital. Current and former Post employees lined up, as always, to defend their open support for Democrats. (They supported every Democratic presidential candidate until the 1980s.)

Former managing editor Marty Baron He described the newspaper’s decision as “cowardice, a moment of darkness that will leave democracy as a casualty.” The Post’s associate editor, Pulitzer Prize winner David Maraniss, called the move “despicable.” He added: “This is not a well-intentioned act of neutrality, but cowardice in the face of the greatest challenge to democracy in our post-World War II lifetimes.”

Opinion page writers expressed their concerns with the headline “The newspaper’s refusal to support a presidential candidate is a mistake.” Eighteen Post columnists responded broadly, saying the move “represents an abandonment of the core editorial convictions of the newspaper we love.” It was the kind of milquetoast statement that was guaranteed to protect their fat paychecks. (Three angry Post employees actually resigned.)

The Posties all imagine they are Woodward and Bernstein, still fighting against the evil Nixon presidency. In reality, they are the propaganda arm of the Democratic Party, and they covered up President Biden’s obvious cognitive problems until they were destroyed in the presidential debate. They do not aspire to be journalists. They want to hurt Republicans.

And of course the real Watergate duo Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein called the publisher’s action “disappointing” and said it “ignored the Washington Post’s own overwhelming reporting evidence of the threat Donald Trump poses to democracy.”

This threat to “democracy” is a widespread media and far-left lie from media outlets that fear their approved candidates will not win. What really scares Posties is the threat that Democrats could lose.

upset Hollywood

Naturally, celebrities were also in revolt; They were either complaining or even canceling their subscriptions. Because one of the two largest leftist newspapers in the USA was not leftist enough for them. This further upset the journalists, because their real audience is the far left.

Liberal celebrities calling for subscribers to cancel or simply whining about the lack of support will sound familiar to anyone who follows social media. Actors Henry “the Fonz” Winkler, Jeffrey Wright and Jon Cryer, author Stephen King, New York Daily News sports columnist Mike Lupica and many more. Old Obama and Biden’s advisor Susan Rice She complained about X: “As a D.C. native and lifelong subscriber to the Post, I’m disgusted. You’ve lost us.”

Both critics and the newspapers’ rivals had the last laugh. “Don’t Cancel the Washington Post. Cancel Amazon Prime,” The Atlantic implored, as conservatives mocked the far left’s purity test for canceling subscriptions.

The New York Times reminded its readers why it remains America’s most left-wing newspaper by endorsing Harris’ “The Only Patriot Pick for President.” The newspaper actively hates patriotism, except that employees think that a few rubles can persuade them to vote in their interests.

In reality, journalists don’t care what readers think. news staff They stopped pretending to be impartial decades ago, even before Generation Z activists invaded their organizations.

The entire episode will show reporters who have someone to blame if Trump is re-elected. They will never admit that decades of prejudice have completely undermined their influence. And this happened long before her publicists ran away from Harris faster than rats abandoning a sinking ship.
