Pune-Solapur Expressway accident: Two killed, 64 injured in major ST bus collision – India News

Two people were killed and 64 others injured when two Maharashtra State Transport (ST) buses collided on the Pune-Solapur Expressway in Maharashtra, police said on Tuesday. The tragic incident took place around 5 pm on Monday near Varvand village in Pune district.

How did the accident happen?

According to police inspector Narayan Deskhmukh, a Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus heading towards Pune collided with another ST bus heading to Solapur. The unfortunate incident took place when a two-wheeler unexpectedly swerved in front of a Pune-bound bus. The driver then tried to change the direction of the bus to avoid the two-wheeler but instead jumped the barrier and crashed into the bus coming from the other direction.

According to the last report, the two buses were carrying more than 110 passengers and caused major casualties and serious damage.

Passengers were transported to hospitals

Speaking to Indian Express, a police officer said that according to preliminary investigation, the driver tried to avoid a collision with the two-wheeler, but this resulted in the bus crashing into on-going traffic. Police also confirmed that two passengers died at the scene and 64 other passengers were injured during the fatal incident. All injured passengers were quickly taken to surrounding hospitals. While an investigation was launched to understand the cause of the incident in detail, an investigation was also launched into the incident. According to the information shared by Yavat police station, emergency services were provided quickly and 66 injured passengers were transported to five nearby hospitals for emergency medical attention with more than ten ambulances.
