The man who attacked the woman allegedly interfered with 911 calls

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) – An Erwin man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a woman and then preventing her from calling 911 three times.

A news release from the Washington County Tennessee Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) states that deputies responded to a home on Little German Road shortly after midnight after receiving a 911 hang-up call. The number reportedly called 911 three times but was disconnected each time.

The statement states that dispatchers were able to tell during the third call that a physical domestic fight was occurring.

Deputies reported hearing loud gunshots when they arrived at the home and were greeted by a victim at the door. The victim said 37-year-old Joseph Kuscsik drugged him down the stairs and shot him multiple times, according to WCSO.

The woman said she tried to call 911 while Kuscsik was asleep, but Kuscsik woke up and blocked her call, according to the statement.

The victim said Kuscsik was in her bedroom, but when deputies approached, Kuscsik allegedly ran away.

He was later found hiding in the empty area under the house and refused to come out. Kuscsik was discovered after deputies brought in the K9 unit.

The injured person was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries.

WCSO said searches of the home were investigated, which revealed a history of six domestic searches in the past three years. Kuscsik also allegedly threatened to harm himself and the victim while en route to the Washington County Detention Center.

Kuscsik was charged with aggravated domestic assault, aggravated kidnapping, evading arrest and three counts of interfering with an emergency call. He was taken to the detention center and held without bail.

Kuscsik will appear in court on Wednesday.
