Newport man arrested for statutory rape of child

CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Deputies say an East Carolina man has been arrested on charges of statutory rape of a child under the age of 13.

The Carteret County Sheriff’s Office said they were contacted by the Carteret County Department of Social Services after a child reported being raped and sexually abused by Dolores Garcia.

Following an investigation, deputies said the 46-year-old Newport man was arrested yesterday.

Garcia was charged with two counts of statutory sexual offense by an adult with a child and one count of statutory rape by an adult with a child.

He is in the Carteret County Jail on $1 million bail.
