Dak is so angry, he misses Dan Quinn, Jones’ family crash

Heading into Week 9, the Dallas Cowboys are facing another bad loss and disappointment is starting to show. Some are more vocal about it than others, but it’s still there. Throw in a few players praising their former coaches on their new digs and the Jones family crash, and it’s a dramatic week as usual in the Big D.

Tell us something we don’t already know. It would be strange if Prescott wasn’t upset after his performance against the 49ers on Sunday night. He had two more interceptions in four games this season. This has been a theme all year long with the offense failing to get things started early in games.

“I’m not supposed to turn the ball over, period.” Prescott said. “I don’t have to be perfect, but I’m sure I can’t force a turnover. I just have to take it (the first throw) and get that sack. And the second one was a blockhead tackle like me.” “I had it.”

This isn’t the first time people in Dallas have heard similar speech from Prescott. After just about any bad loss (and there have been plenty) Dak comes up to the podium after the game and tells us the same thing about needing to be better and doing things differently.

“I tried to make a play and I was too confident at that moment. I probably should have thrown it aside. I wish I had put a little more pressure on CeeDee or just gone out of bounds. This one. They suffered, starting the third quarter like that prevented them from scoring a goal there Then look at the final score, one goal made the difference.”

Ultimately, Prescott’s failures also fall on the shoulders of Mike McCarthy, who runs the show from the sidelines in this offense. A point guard is an on-field extension of a team’s head coach. So, when the QB is unprepared or exhausted one can often look to the sideline and find the same thing. The Cowboys are a middling team that could miss the playoffs entirely this season.

“I’m personally disappointed,” Prescott said. “I’m disappointed in myself and my game. I know the other players are sitting at 3-4, but I can say that no one is shaken or giving up. The frustration is quite high, but it’s a situation. It’s been a long season. It’s been a few years, a few games. I had to play, period.”

Considering the way the Cowboys defense has looked this season under new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, it’s no surprise that some of these players still long for the old days under former DC Dan Quinn. The latter, which currently leads the Washington Commanders in first place in the NFC East, pulled off a stunning victory in the final seconds. To beat the Hail Mary Pass Chicago Bears on Sunday.

After witnessing Sunday’s heroics, Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs had nothing but good things to say about the Commanders and especially Quinn.

“This will be about trust, brother.” Diggs said. “Your coach gives you that confidence and puts that battery on your back, you’re going to go every time. You’ve got to have a coach that stands by you.”

“That’s who Dan represents,” Parsons said. “People don’t understand how much morale he gives to the team. The spirit he gives to the defense. The energy he gives to all the players. Shark week, fight night, he shows us boxing clips of MF guys getting knocked out.”

Parsons has never been shy about voicing his respect for Quinn, his first DC in the NFL. The truth is that Parsons had great success as soon as he entered the league under Quinn’s guidance. So it’s easy to understand why watching him go has been difficult for these players in the offseason.

As Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was preparing for Sunday’s game against San Francisco, family members traveling separately had an accident outside Levi’s Stadium before kickoff. Their vehicle crashed into a barricade rising outside the stadium. Luckily, no one was seriously injured in the accident and all three passengers were able to attend the match. Todd Archer ESPN:

“Jones’ parents are Charlotte Jones, Jerry Jones Jr. and Shy Anderson Jr. to tonight’s game was struck by a towering barricade outside Levi’s Stadium before kickoff. “Charlotte and Jerry Jr. have been evaluated by the team’s medical staff and are attending the game.”
