Pine Ridge man pleads guilty to assault on two-month-old baby

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – Sinte White Butterfly, 25, of Pine Ridge, pleaded not guilty in September to one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury in federal court Tuesday morning.

The charge stems from events that occurred in August. In a factual statement, White Butterfly said he lost his temper and attacked a baby who was one to two months old at the time.

The attack caused multiple injuries to the baby, including:

Almost all ribs are broken
Femur fractures in both right and left femur
Right tibia fractured
Fracture in right wrist
intracranial bleeding
Skull fracture on the right side of the skull

White Butterfly could face a maximum sentence of life in prison and a $250,000 fine. He will be sentenced on January 6, 2025.
