Detroit Police want to know why Jameson Williams wasn’t arrested

The Wayne County (Michigan) Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing a request for a warrant to arrest Williams for carrying a concealed weapon in a motor vehicle. ESPN reported on Tuesday.

Police said they stopped a car driven by Williams’ brother for speeding. The driver explained that there were two guns in the car; one in the back seat and the other under the front passenger seat where Williams was sitting.

The gun in the backseat was registered to Williams’ brother, who had a concealed handgun permit. The other gun belonged to Williams, who did not have a concealed handgun permit.

“I bought the gun for protection” Williams told police. “Do you know where I live? Detroit!”

However, Williams was taken into custody because he did not have a CPL.

“On October 8, my clients were pulled over for an alleged traffic violation” said Todd FloodWilliams’ attorney said in a statement released to WXYZ. “During the stop, my clients were both cooperative and respectful towards the police officers. It was determined that the two handguns found in the vehicle were both properly registered and the driver of the vehicle was licensed to carry them. We have cooperated with law enforcement and will continue to do so.”

Williams, a 2021 first-round draft pick, had 17 receptions for 361 yards, three touchdowns and four rushing attempts for 32 yards as Detroit compiled a 6-1 record during the 2024 season.
