Couple arrested after woman found dead near waterfall in Hong Kong

A married couple was arrested Hong Kong A case has been opened in the suspected murder of a domestic worker whose body was found near a waterfall on Monday.

The man is charged with murder, while his wife is also charged with allegedly aiding the man’s attempt to evade the law.

Police chief Sin Kwok-ming said the victim had visible wounds on his forehead, back of his head and limbs, but his clothes and belongings were untouched. South Chinese Morning Post.

According to the outlet, an initial autopsy concluded that the woman likely suffered trauma from a hard object and was subsequently strangled.

Investigators said the victim arrived at the park in a taxi with the male suspect around 11 p.m. Sunday.

They went to the top of the waterfall, and about half an hour later, the man suddenly left, again in a taxi.

Police identified the man and sent a team to his home in Ap Lei Chau. But by the time they got there, the man and his wife had crossed into mainland China.

They were arrested at West Kowloon railway station when they returned to Hong Kong around 5pm on Tuesday.

Police confirmed that the male suspect was known to the victim, but details about the nature of their relationship, the course of events and possible motives are still being investigated.

Mr Sin said police became suspicious of the man because of his behaviour. “A lot of things about him made no sense,” he was quoted as saying. Hong Kong Free Press. He explained that the man did not report the incident, did not stay in Hong Kong, and “some evidence also disappeared for no reason.”

“All these circumstances show that this is not a case of natural death,” the inspector said. The couple is being held in custody while the police continue their investigation.
