Tasmanian Police inspector sacked over allegations of sexual harassment at Christmas party

A Tasmania Police inspector has been dismissed from the force following an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct at a Christmas parade in Hobart in December last year.

The officer’s termination followed a “comprehensive professional standards investigation” into internal complaints launched earlier this year.

Police Commissioner Donna Adams had lost confidence in the officer and his fitness to continue duty.

“The Tasmanian community has high expectations of policing and we have been given significant powers to carry out our duties to keep people safe,” Adams said.

“The behavior of any police officer can impact the community’s confidence in the police to provide this service.”

The officer was placed on leave following the incident and dismissed under section 30(1) of the Policing Act 2003.
