Why are SC/ST students of Maharani College suddenly asked to pay examination fees?

Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) students of Maharani College in Mysuru, Karnataka, led by student organization All India Democratic Students Organization (AIDSO), protested against the abolition of zero payment for SC and ST students and demanded postponement of education. Addressing the protest, AIDSO Regional President Chandrakala said that until last year, SC and ST students were exempt from paying examination fees. However, this year, as the majority of students did not get scholarships, they suddenly have to pay Rs 1,598.
