Hyderabad woman dies, 15 others fall sick after eating momos from same vendor | Latest News India

A woman died after eating momo sold at a roadside stall in Hyderabad, while 15 others fell ill after allegedly consuming the snack in a different part of the city, police said.

Reshma Begum, 33, a family member of the dead woman, said her daughters, aged 12 and 14, ate momos from a street vendor in Khayratabad on Friday. They soon began experiencing diarrhea, stomach pain and vomiting. The treatment of their daughter, who died on Sunday morning, continues. Reshma Begum was a single mother and had surviving daughters. NDTV reported.

A local person who spoke to reporters claimed that the woman started showing symptoms of food poisoning an hour after eating the momo. He added that the woman died around 8.30am on Monday morning. India today reported.

The report stated that the woman and others were eating momos at a food stall called ‘Delhi Momos’. Located in Chintal Basti, the stall was set up by six men from Bihar about three months ago. According to the police, those operating the stalls were detained.

The woman’s body has been buried and a decision on further steps to determine the cause of death has not yet been taken.

In a statement made by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), it was stated that the company’s food safety officials, with the help of the police, tracked down the street vendor and found that the business was operating without a licence.

Authorities sent food samples to the state food laboratory for analysis and orders were issued to stop the vendor’s business activities. According to the PTI report, GHMC food safety officials have also sent a letter to Banjara Hills police to conduct an investigation into the matter.

Banjara Hills Police Station sub-inspector Ram Babu said, “Yesterday, we received a complaint that Reshma Begum (33) died after consuming momos from a single vendor at different places and 15 others suffered food poisoning. We have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
