The New York Yankees aren’t waving the white flag yet.

The Bronx Bombers extended their 2024 World Series by defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-4 in Game 4 on Tuesday night.

Dodgers leadoff baseman Freddie Freeman quickly silenced the Yankee Stadium crowd with a two-run homer in the first inning.

While the home team was counting down in the second, shortstop Anthony Volpe hit a grand slam in the third.

After the Dodgers cut their deficit to a single run, Yankees catcher Austin Wells gave his team some breathing room with a solo shot.

The American League champions had additional insurance tries in the eighth inning, with three of them coming off the bat of second baseman Gleyber Torres.

Volpe is an example of the subtle difference between being a hero and being a goat at the end of the season.

In the bottom of the second, he appeared to have cost New York a run with his sloppy running. What could have been Wells’ RBI triple was instead a double that put runners on second and third. As Volpe scored on a fielder’s choice, the Yankees had the only run they could have tied the game.

All was forgiven when Volpe emerged into the courtyard.

VOLPE!!! @Yankees

New York needed some unsung heroes, considering Juan Soto, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton combined for two hits, and both came when the outcome was largely decided.

The supporting cast more than delivered to make up for it.

There was always a chance he would get away from Los Angeles in a big way, as Dodgers manager Dave Roberts made this a bullpen game from the beginning. New York’s offensive explosion may be an anomaly.

Ask the San Diego Padres how much explosion victory Playing against the Dodgers could mean going against the franchise as a whole.

Jack Flaherty is scheduled to take on Gerrit Cole on Wednesday night. The Los Angeles right-hander allowed 14 earned runs in 20.2 innings in these playoffs. If the Yankees can pounce on Flaherty early, their seemingly impossible return offer will move closer to reality.
