The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Andre Ally, recently visited the region to assess progress on various projects, highlighting the importance of these projects in enhancing the region’s security and emergency response capabilities.

At the Anna Regina Police Station, Mr. Ally formally awarded the contract for its reconstruction to Construction Hardware, General Materials and Construction for the amount of G$185,865,689. This project aims to modernize the police station, provide a safer, more functional space for officers and create a welcoming environment for community interactions.

Mr Ally inspected the site at Charity designated for a new boathouse and jetty for the Guyana Police Force.

Recognizing the unique challenges of patrolling Region Two’s extensive waterways, this facility will strengthen police presence and response capabilities in river and coastal areas, as well as communities along the Essequibo Coast and Pomeroon River.

Mr. Ally also visited the Charity Fire Station, which is now 70 percent complete. The construction work is being carried out by Gavko İnşaat at a cost of G$ 144,887,000. The new fire station will strengthen the region’s emergency infrastructure, enabling timely response to fires and other emergencies.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ally also toured the Anna Regina Fire Station, which currently handles all emergency response duties on the Essequibo Coast.

Once operational, the Charity Fire Station will provide significant support, improve response times and increase the overall capacity of the Guyana Fire Service to more effectively manage fire emergencies across the region.

Mr. Ally noted that his visit to various locations offered a first-hand look at local challenges and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to providing residents with responsive and well-supported law enforcement.

He also contacted officers in the area and obtained valuable information.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs is committed to strengthening infrastructure, allocating resources and improving service delivery to ensure the safety and well-being of all Guyanese.

The ongoing projects in the Second District represent a major investment in security and emergency services, consistent with the government’s broader commitment to public safety and community development.
