BSF to organize first all-women river rafting trip in November – ThePrint – PTIFeed

New Delhi, Oct 30 (PTI) The Border Security Force (BSF) will organize the first all-women river rafting expedition covering over 2,500 km with the theme of “women empowerment” and “clean Ganga”.

A team of 20 women personnel from the country’s largest border guard force joined hands with the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NNCG) under the Ministry of Jal Shakti to undertake a 53-day journey from Devprayag in Uttarakhand to Gangasagar in West Bengal . senior BSF officer said.

After flagging off from Devprayag on November 2, the journey will see the expedition flag handed over by Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Paatil in Haridwar on November 4.

It will complete its journey at Diamond Harbor in West Bengal on December 26.

“This is the first time that BSF has an all-women team on a river rafting trip. “The team will also have some members of the support staff and NMCG along on their journey,” he said.

BSF Inspector General (Training) Raja Babu Singh said the 20 participating women were trained in floodwater rescue operations, riverside border rule course and basic canoeing at the BSF Institute of Adventure and Advanced Training (BIAAT) in Dehradun.

Singh said that the team, which will spread the messages of women empowerment and cleaning of the Ganges, will be led by BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary after the completion of the journey.

The team will stop in eight cities along its route and conduct public awareness campaigns on the banks of the Ganges, including Prayagraj, Varanasi and Patna.

Consisting of around 2.65 lakh personnel, the BSF is primarily tasked with protecting the borders of Pakistan and Bangladesh.
