Baby accidentally shot in Paris dies

PARIS, Texas (KXII) – A two-year-old girl is dead after an accidental shooting in Paris on Tuesday evening.

Paris Police Chief Richard W. Salter Jr. said they received a call from an apartment in the 300 block of Stone Avenue just before 6 p.m.

Salter said that after entering the apartment, police found the child with a gunshot wound to the head and a 16-year-old boy unresponsive.

Paris EMS transported the toddler to the Paris Regional Health Directorate, where he was pronounced dead.

Salter said the preliminary investigation showed the toddler accidentally shot himself with a family member’s gun.

“There have been no arrests at this time,” Salter said in a press release Wednesday morning. “Only after a thorough investigation can criminal charges be filed later.”
