AstraZeneca’s China head is under ‘ongoing investigation’, company says

The Chinese president of AstraZeneca is under investigation in mainland China, the pharmaceutical company said on Wednesday.

The pharmaceutical and biotechnology company said in a statement that Leon Wang was cooperating with “an ongoing investigation.”

“Our China operations continue under the leadership of the current managing director of AstraZeneca China,” the British-Swedish company added.

The company has not yet provided detailed information on whether Wang is in custody, and his whereabouts have not been disclosed.

AstraZeneca China said it would “fully cooperate with the investigation.”

According to his LinkedIn page, Wang joined AstraZeneca in 2013 and became the company’s country president in 2014. He has served as vice president of business operations in China since 2017.
