Five more people charged over Edinburgh football disorder

Five more people have been arrested and charged in connection with football-related disorder in Edinburgh City Centre.

Two 19-year-old men, an 18-year-old and a 24-year-old, and a 16-year-old teenager have been charged in connection with the events in St Andrew Square following the Scottish Premiership match between Hibernian and Motherwell on 5 October.

Police Scotland said the violence following the match at Easter Road was directed at officers.

While the five were released on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date, police said football banning orders had been made.

Thus, the total number of people accused of match-related irregularities increased to 14, between the ages of 16 and 32.

Chief Inspector Craig Rogerson said: “Officers work hard to create a safe environment not only during football matches but also after the competition.

“These arrests send a strong message that we will not tolerate any form of football-related disorder.”
