Bronx man stabbed to death at Coney Island subway station

October 30 (UPI) — A 54-year-old Bronx man died after a suspect stabbed him in the back at the Coney Island subway station late Tuesday night.

Police responded to an emergency call at 11:30 p.m. (EDT) after a man was found with a stab wound in his back at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue subway station, ABC News, NBC New York and the New York Daily News reported.

When police arrived, they found the victim sitting unconscious in a seat on an idling N train.

The man was taken to New York University Hospital-Brooklyn, where police said he was pronounced dead at 12:06 a.m.

Police concealed the man’s identity until he notified his family of his death.

NYPD is investigating the stabbing death and has not made any arrests.

Police are looking for a bald suspect in his 30s who was wearing a green shirt and marine-coloured shorts at the time of the attack.

The man was last seen running in the direction of Stillwell Avenue.

Police said they did not know a motive for the stabbing or whether the victim and suspect knew each other.

Police could not find the weapon used in the knife attack.

The stabbing death is the ninth homicide on New York City’s public transportation system, surpassing the five homicides that occurred on the public transportation system in 2023.

Despite more deaths this year, crimes on the city’s public transportation system are down 6.1% from 2023, while homicides in New York City are down 8.4%, according to the NYPD.
