New pension rules: These central government pensioners will get additional benefits

The Department of Pensions and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW) has confirmed that central government pensioners who have attained the age of 80 are eligible for additional pension. The announcement, made through an office statement, details the benefits retirees can benefit from depending on their age.

Additional retirement statement

Supplementary pension or compassionate allowance is structured as follows:

  • 80 to 80 years old
  • 85 to 85 years old
  • 90 to 90 years old
  • 95 to 95 years old
  • Age 100 and over: 100% of basic pension

For example, an 81-year-old retiree will receive an extra 20 percent of his basic pension, while a 95-year-old retiree will receive an extra 50 percent. Additional pension becomes valid from the first day of the month in which the retiree turns 80. For example, if a pensioner was born on August 20, 1942, they will start receiving the extra 20% from August 1, 2022.

This policy aims to support senior citizens who dedicate their lives to public service.

The Memorandum encourages all ministries and pension paying authorities to ensure the effective communication of these provisions.

In a separate development, The Department of Pensions and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoP&PW) has revised various rules regarding central government employees and pensioners. These changes aim to clarify issues related to services for employees under the National Pension System (NPS).

Central Public employees covered by NPS You will now be able to opt for voluntary retirement after completing 20 years of regular service.

To initiate this process, the employee must provide at least three months’ written notice to the appointing authority.
