‘Vancouver City Hell’ Halloween decorations attract attention

‘Vancouver City Hell’ Halloween decorations attract attention

One Vancouver resident likes to push the boundaries when it comes to Halloween decorations.

Laryssa Gervan chooses a theme every year and adds a comedic twist to the issues of the day.

This spooky season, Gervan’s house on Victoria Drive has been transformed into “Vancouver City Hell,” and the front yard is full of local references that will make you sigh and then laugh.

“I like choosing themes like this because it adds a little levity to things that are really serious,” he told CTV News. “You definitely have a little more freedom on Halloween.”

The gruesome footage features Vancouver Mayor “Ken Sin” decapitating a park board (an Eeyore plushie wearing a PB t-shirt) with a paper cutter.

He’s also been teasing the Halloween vibe with signs erected outside Lululemon founder Chip Wilson’s mansion during the state election campaign.

The sign, held by a flashlight in a Lululemon T-shirt, reads: “Trick-or-treaters forget when you ‘give’ them candy, they participate in the evils of ‘communism’.”

There’s also a collapsed crane, a “Ghoul Chilling Park” sign, and a series of headstones from iconic nightclubs and music venues that have closed over the years.

“I really like the reactions I get from the neighbors who come in,” Gervan said. “People have a lot of emotions, and people laugh about it.”
