Not sold to Pittsburgh Steelers legend Russell Wilson, big breakthrough in offense: ‘Put on the brakes’

Pittsburgh Steelers The offense put up 31 points per game in Russell Wilson’s first two starts. Does this mean the team’s offense suddenly becomes a top-10 player, or will there be more to come from this group?

Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger For now, he wants to slow down the Steelers’ offense. He believes they will face better defenses in the future and the staff should continue its steady rise.

“How good are the defenses we’ve played so far?” Roethlisberger questioned. “They lost some really good DBs. They were weak in the secondary. What happens when we suddenly play a team with a really good secondary, a really good passing offense? They could double a guy, or they could not double George (Pickens) and replace (Calvin) Austin (III) with a really good guy.

I want to put the brakes on a little bit because we don’t know what to expect when we face a really good defense. But right now they’re doing what they have to do and that’s what matters.”

Roethlisberger was right that the Jets and Giants were down on defense, but coming into those games, both of those defenses ranked among the top ten pass defenses but struggled to stop the run.

The Steelers will face teams that struggle strongly against the pass but can stuff the run, which will be another test of how the team can adapt to different matchups on its schedule.
