As October draws to a close, November will see Stop & Shops stores open their doors in five states.

General store first announced the closure of 32 “underperforming” stores in JulyHe said closing nearly three dozen Northeast locations “will position the company for growth.” All stores that will be closed gradually will be closed on or before Saturday, November 2.

“Stop & Shop is proud of the deep roots and community ties we have developed as a neighborhood grocer for more than 100 years, and we are committed to nurturing our associates, customers and communities,” said Stop & Shop President Gordon Reid. he said in a press release in July. “Stop & Shop evaluated its overall store portfolio and made the difficult decision to close underperforming stores to create a healthy foundation for our brand’s future growth.”

The grocery chain, owned by Ahold Delhaize USA Company, will continue to operate 350 locations in five states. The closing announcement stated that employees of the affected stores would be offered positions elsewhere in the company.

“Our employees are a strong community dedicated to growing and working together, and all of our store associates will continue to have a place in the Stop & Shop family as we look forward to serving customers at other nearby locations,” Reid added.

Stop & Shop did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
