Exploring Edmonton’s haunted history – Edmonton

There are many places in Edmonton with a haunted history.

At Mount Pleasant Cemetery on the south side, people reported seeing things like shadowy figures, hazy lights and orbs.

“People have definitely reported some very strange things here,” he said Craig Bairdhost of the history podcast Canadian History Ehx.

“People have also reported that their camera batteries would suddenly die.”

The cemetery along 106th Street in the Pleasantview area is of interest to those interested in paranormal activity.

“There are some paranormal investigators who have come down here to investigate and see what they can find… and they’ve reported hearing things on their recorders,” Baird said.

One of Edmonton’s most well-known haunted places is the Walterdale Theatre.

Originally serving as a firehouse, the building is said to be haunted by a friendly ghost named Walt, who once volunteered as a firefighter.

“Apparently he died in the second-floor dorm game room, which is now the powder room,” Baird said. he explained.

“People reported seeing Walt going up and down the stairs, misplacing clothes, wigs, and belongings.”

Perhaps one of the most legendary haunted places in Edmonton is the Firkins House in Fort Edmonton Park.

“There are stories of a child wandering around the building; a teenager is seen wearing clothing from the 1950s,” Baird said.

“People doing home renovations and restoring it to its 1910s appearance have reported a variety of strange things, such as their appliances going missing.”

Baird had an experience on the top floor of Firkins’ house a few years ago.

“There are various chains crisscrossing the rooms so you can’t get into them,” he explained.

“One of the chains was shaking violently, as if someone was holding it, but none of the other chains were holding.

“It was a weird thing to find that I couldn’t explain why this was happening.”
