NW Ohio voters divided on what’s driving them to the polls

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Election Day is approaching with just a few days left until votes are counted.

As voters go to the polls, many voters are motivated by different reasons.

The pivotal presidential race is prominent in much of the national conversation, but people who spoke to 13 Action News on and off camera said local ballot questions of the economy are driving them to vote.

The reasons why Ohio voters came out to make their voices heard likely vary.

“Just go out and vote, that’s all,” said one Ohio voter.

Be it voters in Fulton County, where more than 8,000 in-person and absentee ballots have been backlogged. To Wood County, where there is a steady stream of voters casting their ballots.

“Women’s issues were definitely the biggest issue I came here to vote for,” Wood County voter Devon Decknadel said.

More than 24,000 people in Wood County voted early or returned ballots, according to data from the Ohio Secretary of State.

Even in Lucas County, where early voting lines continued to stretch outside the building.

Voters said that while the presidential election was a motivating factor, concerns about the future of the economy still weigh heavily on them.

“All of them, the others set our taxes and stuff,” Lucas County Selectman Kathy Wenz said.

More than 37,000 votes were cast in Lucas County.

Just over 24,800 mail-in ballots were returned.

More than 2,047,000 Ohioans have voted for the state so far.
