Sundar continues to haunt Rachin and dismisses the New Zealand batsman for the 3rd consecutive time

Indian off-spinner Washington Sundar continued to trouble Rachin Ravindra by dismissing him for the third consecutive time on Day 1 of the third Test at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Friday (November 1). Sundar bowled Ravindra with a sharp spin that beat the batsman’s outside off. He kept hitting the edges and stumps.

As a result, the Blackcaps’ batsman had to return to the pavilion for just 5 (12) minutes, leaving his team 72/3 ahead in 20 overs. Notably, Sundar got rid of the dangerous Ravindra for the third consecutive time in the series after he smashed his stumps in both the innings during the second Test in Pune.

Ravindra has been India’s nemesis in the series so far, leading the rubbers with 252 runs in five innings, at an average of 63, a hundred and a fifty. In the first Test in Bengaluru, he was named the Player of the Match for scoring 134 and 39* in two innings respectively, helping his team win the match by eight wickets.

India rest Jasprit Bumrah

Earlier in the day in Mumbai, New Zealand captain Tom Latham won the toss and elected to bat first. India made a change in the game by resting Jasprit Bumrah, who was suffering from viral flu, and replacing him with Mohammed Siraj. On the other hand, New Zealand added Matt Henry and Ish Sodhi to its squad instead of Tim Southee and Mitchell Santner.

The visitors did not get off to a great start as Akash Deep removed Devon Conway lbw for 4 (11). Having lost an early wicket, Will Young joined captain Tom Latham on the sidelines and the pair took their team’s score to over 50. Sundar put an end to their partnership by clearing Latham for 28 (44). New Zealand went to lunch at 92/3 with Young (38*) and Daryl Mitchell (11*) in 27 overs.
