Manchester police arrest man after standoff and attempted burglary

MANCHESTER — Police arrested a 37-year-old man on Oct. 30 after a burglary attempt turned into a fight in a Manchester neighborhood.

The incident began around 9:15 a.m. when officers were dispatched to a home on Scenic Drive.

The homeowner reported that a man followed him into his garage.

She managed to walk away and close the garage door, preventing the man from following her any further.

When Manchester police arrived at the scene, they opened the garage but were unable to locate the suspect.

Meanwhile, the police noticed a man in the second floor window of the house.

After entering the house from the garage, the police called out to the man and asked him to come down.

However, the suspect refused to comply and slammed the door.

SWAT team members were called to the scene and the man was instructed to exit his second-floor bedroom.

When he couldn’t answer, they entered the room and found him hiding in the bathroom.

Despite the use of less-lethal ammunition and the deployment of a K9 unit, the suspect resisted and grabbed the barrel of one of the officers’ rifle.

Police maintained control of the gun throughout the argument.

The suspect was identified as Abdourahmane Dieng, who lives in Manchester and whose address is unknown.

Dieng, who was out on bail for a previous assault charge in July, now faces charges of burglary, resisting arrest and attempting to take a gun from a law enforcement officer.
