Life sentence for man who raped woman in Cleckheaton cemetery

A “very dangerous” sex offender who raped a woman in a cemetery after stalking her home has been jailed for life.

West Yorkshire Police said Adam Martin followed the woman as she left Cleckheaton bus station before dragging her to the cemetery to carry out a “sustained and violent attack”.

The 26-year-old man, of no fixed abode, had previously admitted 10 offenses in connection with the attack; these included two rapes, two intentional strangulations and one threat to kill.

At a sentencing hearing at Leeds Crown Court on Friday, Martin was told he must serve a minimum of 13 years and nine months in prison.
