Florida Man Charged with Killing Ligonier Solider – InkFreeNews.com

LIGONIER – A Florida man has been arrested after allegedly killing a Ligonier trooper.

On October 30, Army Special Trial Counsel favored charges against Specialist Wooster Rancy, 21, of the 5th Engineer Battalion, in the death of Sergeant Sarah Roque. Rancy was arrested as a person of interest on October 24.

Roque, 23, of Ligonier, was found dead on October 22 after missing morning training on October 21. This prompted authorities to issue an alert asking for help locating him. Roque’s body was found in a dumpster near single-military housing at Fort Leonard Wood base in Missouri.

The general nature of the charges against Rancy consists of the murder of Roque on October 20 and obstruction of justice in violation of Articles 118 and 131b of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. The charges are allegations and Rancy is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Rancy is currently being held in pretrial confinement pending a preliminary hearing under UCMJ Article 32.

Rancy is originally from North Miami, Florida, and serves as a combat engineer with the 509th Clearance Company, 5th Engineer Battalion. He joined the Army in 2022 and attended Basic Combat Training at Ford Leonard Wood.

Roque was a bridge crew member and served as a Mine Dog Handler with K9 Detachment, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 5th Engineer Battalion.

Governor Eric J. Holcomb has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in Noble County from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, Nov. 2.

Funeral services for Roque It will take place on November 2 in Ligonier.
