The SEC is taking action against players faking injuries.

Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger reports that SEC commissioner Greg Sankey sent a memo to the conference’s coaches and athletic directors asking programs to “play football and stop the fake injury nonsense.” The note also stated that teams would be penalized for violations.

Penalties include public reprimands for coaches and fines to schools for the first two violations; the third results in a one-match suspension for the coach.

Sankey said fake injuries were “disrespectful” and that the team should have used their allocated breaks instead.

“When defending against a ‘rush’ offense, you will use allotted team timeouts if you must stop the play, or you may allow the play to continue while the personnel and defensive play call are in place,” Sankey wrote. “While on offense, if the game clock is running out, you will use a team timeout or accept a delay of game penalty. Calling injury timeouts under these circumstances is unacceptable and disrespectful to the game of college football.”

The memo also stated that injured players would be “given the benefit of the doubt.”

The SEC imposes penalties because most teams have five games remaining on the conference slate. He is expected to play a role in many important games in the coming period and will carry over to the 2025 season.
