Hong Kong police arrested 8 people after a prison officer was injured outside the prison

Hong Kong police arrested eight people in connection with the wounding of a prison officer outside a prison on Friday and said officers were investigating whether the incident was related to the victim’s work.

Lam Kai-chor, the police chief in charge of the agency’s organized crime and triad bureau, said the suspects all had a triad background and that the agency would continue to search for others responsible for the case.

“The police strongly condemn violent behavior against public service workers and unlawful actions by individual criminals,” Lam said.

“I would like to state once again that the tripartite fight is one of the primary operational focuses of the police commissioner. “Police will continue to take action to tackle the trio and their associated sources of income.”

Three men attacked the office of a 50-year-old Department of Prison Services deputy as he was leaving Pik Uk Prison in Sai Kung.

Speaking to the press on Saturday, Lam said that one of the suspects acted as a leader during the attack, while the other seven were his collaborators.

While police are still investigating their role during the incident, officers also said there was no evidence the attack was related to the victim’s finances or personal life.
