PITTSFIELD, Illinois — An eight-woman, four-man jury heard Friday afternoon 3.5 hours of text and Snapchat messages found on the cellphones of Austin Rodhouse and his wife, detailing sexual acts involving their son, Rodhouse’s objections and his thoughts on their sentence . He gave orders for his wife, and his distrust and disgust for her eventually came out when he mentally beat her.

Investigator Ereka Glass of the Illinois State Police Major Crimes Unit read the messages shown on three television screens in the courtroom.

The first series of messages, from October 2022, concerned sexual acts with the Rodhouses’ eldest son, who complained of erection pain.

“Stimulation can stop the pain,” Rodhouse wrote.

He later wrote: “The doctor told my mother during my check-ups that if I didn’t have sex or arousal regularly, I would have heart failure and that was the cause of the great pain in my genitals. But I’m sure you know more than a doctor with your stupid words.”

A number of messages were about the possibility of homeschooling their children. Rodhouse argued that his wife, identified in court documents as “CC,” should have taught their son about sex.

“We’ll probably have to have sex sooner or later, because (both sons) have been watching us and are probably wondering what’s going on?” CC wrote.

Other comments on the subject are as follows:

  • Austin suggested his sons “give us your (sex) toys and cheer you up” while having sex.
  • “It feels kind of weird talking about (their son) that way,” CC wrote.
  • CC asked, “What if I get pregnant (by their son)?” he asked. Rodhouse replied: “That would be nice. We would raise (the baby) normally. Technically, she said, the baby would belong to their eldest son, “but we would raise him like a brother or sister and let him think he was ours.”
  • CC asked if Rodhouse would have sex with his own mother. “From 13 to 18 back then, yes,” he replied. CC asked if he was influenced by his mother. “Yeah, she used to be hot,” she replied. He also said that he was attracted to his younger sister, calling them “my parents’ lovers.”

In another conversation in October 2022, punishments for CC who failed to fully insert a sex toy into her rectum were discussed. When she called him “Dad”, he replied, “I will only be a father if you deserve it.”

CC sent Rodhouse a photo showing how he used a scalpel to cut the word “Rodhouse” into his arm, but Rodhouse did not believe the cuts were deep enough. CC then sent a photo showing how she cut the word “Austin” on her thigh with a scalpel, and the deeper cuts in the photo caused blood to drip down her leg.

CC also sent a video showing her using a scalpel to make cuts on her vagina. The arms of a man are shown helping CC wince from the pain. The man was not identified.

Still, Rodhouse wasn’t happy. He wrote: “The courthouse is open Tuesday for divorce papers.” He later wrote: “You can’t get attached to your goals. I don’t want to be with a weak bitch who isn’t committed.

A third thread from January 2024 showed Rodhouse dominating the conversation that CC was cheating on him. During the conversation, Rodhouse wrote:

  • “You are the biggest mistake of my life.”
  • “There is nothing in my life that I regret more than you.”
  • “You are so ugly.”
  • He called her a “tattooed trailer trash whore” and a “mother, housewife and whore.”

Rodhouse told CC that three of his friends would come to the house to have sex with him for $200 each. She would get more money if she got a quote from their favorite porn star tattooed on CC’s hip.

CC wrote to Rodhouse that she wanted to demonstrate her commitment to the family by “forcing myself to be the mother, wife, partner, and what you and the boys deserve.”

“What radical decision can you make to prove to me that you are (determined)? Because your word means nothing,” Rodhouse wrote.

“Face tattoo,” CC wrote in response.

“Pick a font and get out your tattoo supplies. I will do this after my shower,” Rodhouse wrote.

CC agreed to have “Austin” tattooed on his forehead above his right eye.

Glass also read a May 3-4 Snapchat chat in which Rodhouse told her that he was “officially done with her bullshit,” that he was going to “get over her ego and stubbornness,” and that she needed to do it. A bowl of dog food for yourself.” CC eventually went to the hospital in Louisiana, Mo., on May 4.

During cross-examination, defense attorney Casey Schnack pulled out passages from the conversations that he believed showed CC’s willingness to participate.

While the couple talked about their son learning about sexuality from his mother, CC wrote: “This doesn’t bother me. I’d rather him learn this from me than from a random person. She also stated that Rodhouse had threatened divorce many times, only for C.C. to try to save their marriage each time, and C.C. suggested getting a facial tattoo.

He also wrote:

  • “I’m committed to you, Austin.”
  • “I’m yours and I’ll stay here.”
  • “I’m not leaving. “I’m not going anywhere.”

Testimony is expected to resume at 09:00 on Monday. Rodhouse, a Pleasant Hill native, has denied all charges. His wife is expected to testify on Monday.
