PTA blocks 113,133 TikTok accounts due to obscene content

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has submitted a report to the Peshawar High Court detailing measures taken to block obscene and blasphemous content on social media platforms, including TikTok, Facebook and Instagram.

According to the PTA report, more than 114,015 explicit videos have been uploaded to TikTok since 2020, leading to the blocking of 113,133 accounts.

The report also stated that 2,463 posts containing abusive material were blocked.

In 2023, 25,267 sexually explicit contents were uploaded and as a result, 24,800 accounts were blocked on TikTok.

The PTA report also disclosed that a total of 1,389,181 instances of sexually explicit content were reported across multiple platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and X (formerly Twitter), of which 1,303,578 links were blocked.

Specific actions include blocking 147,579 links on Facebook, 22,357 on Instagram, 125,600 on TikTok, 53,162 on YouTube, and 53,842 on X.

PTA emphasized that it continues to work with social media companies to prevent the spread of inappropriate and blasphemous material on their platforms.
