Important developments in the Gaza war emerged on Saturday, November 2. Israel’s attack on the polio vaccination center in Gaza led to harsh criticism from the World Health Organization (WHO). Meanwhile, it was reported that the bullets fired from Northern Gaza were the first cross-border attack against Israel in weeks.

Here’s a detailed look at both developments.

Attack on polio vaccination center

Six people, including four children, were injured in an attack on a polio vaccination center in northern Gaza, according to WHO. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the international organisation, said the center in Sheikh Radwan was hit as parents brought their children for life-saving polio vaccinations.

He described the incident as “extremely worrying”. The region is under a humanitarian pause to allow the vaccination campaign to continue, he added.

UN officials have warned of an “apocalyptic” humanitarian situation in northern Gaza, where civilians are left without basic aid and essential supplies amid ongoing hostilities.

Cross-border attack from Northern Gaza to Israel

Meanwhile, the Israeli army reported that two rockets were fired at Israel from the north of Gaza; this was the first such cross-border attack in weeks.

The rockets fell in open areas near communities surrounding the Gaza Strip, according to the Israel Defense Forces, which launched a massive offensive in northern Gaza to prevent Hamas militants from regrouping.

The conflict, which started with an attack on Israel led by Hamas in October 2023, resulting in the death of 1,206 people, led to extensive retaliatory attacks by Israel. More than 43,000 people, mostly civilians, have died in Gaza, according to health ministry figures from the Hamas-controlled area that the UN has deemed credible.

The developments clearly show the intensity of the conflict; While international organizations call for a humanitarian pause to deliver aid to civilians caught in the crossfire, both sides are making mutual attacks.
