A teenage boy has been charged with attempted murder after a 13-year-old girl was stabbed and left fighting for her life.

Police combed the woodland bordering the A63 after the girl was found on the roadside at around 6.50am.

Six teenagers were arrested in the forest in connection with the alleged stabbing.

A 14-year-old boy has now been charged with attempted murder and possession of a bladed article.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Hull Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Three boys, aged 15, 16 and 17, and two girls, aged 14 and 15, were later released from custody on police bail.

The victim is in serious but stable condition and remains hospitalized, police said.

Detective Superintendent Simon Vickers said: “I understand that this incident will rightly cause concern in the community.

“I would like to reassure you that six people are in custody as part of our initial investigation.

“They are all being questioned by detectives. We now believe the attackers knew the victim.

“Investigations are continuing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The girl remains in hospital and her family is being supported by staff during this difficult time.

“Local residents can expect an increased police presence over the weekend as my officers provide additional reassurance to residents.”

DS Vickers added: “If you see them and have concerns please come and speak to us.

“Cordons are currently in place surrounding the woodland off Ferriby High Road to allow emergency services to operate safely and pursue multiple lines of inquiry.

“I would also like to thank the citizens who came to the girl’s aid.

“They helped him on the roadside before emergency services arrived.”
