Ishan Kishan warned for arguing with umpire over allegations of ball tampering in Australia

The final day of the unofficial Test match between India A and Australia A in Mackay was filled with drama. Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan is facing charges of “improper conduct” amid allegations of ball tampering against the visiting Indian team. Tensions rose before the match started on Sunday, November 3, and Ishan could be in trouble if officials accuse him of “dissent” on the pitch.

According to local media reports, Ishan Kishan may face sanctions due to his altercation with referee Shawn Craig. The start of play on Day 4 at the Great Barrier Reef Arena was delayed after the umpires replaced the ball, citing “scratch marks” on the previous ball. Indian players were seen arguing with the umpires and Craig was heard saying on the stump microphone that the tourists were responsible for the scratches.

Ishan Kishan expressed his displeasure with the change of ball and got into a heated argument with referee Shawn.

“You scratch it, we’ll change it. There will be no more arguments; let’s play. This is not an argument; you will play with that ball,” referee Shawn said to the Indian players, as quoted by The Age.

Ishan called the decision “very stupid”, further angering the referee.

“Excuse me, you will be penalized for dissenting. This is inappropriate behavior; we changed the ball because of your actions,” replied referee Shawn.

The seriousness of the ball tampering allegations is not yet known. Under the Cricket Australia Code of Conduct, players who alter the condition of the ball could face penalties, including potential bans, if found guilty.

Eventually play started with the new ball on Sunday and Australia A secured a seven-wicket victory. Them 86 runs were needed to win on the final day After finishing Day 3 at 139 for 3.

Captain Nathan McSweeney struck out with an unbeaten 88, while Beau Webster contributed 61 to help Australia A secure a comfortable win.

India showed a marked improvement in their second innings, scoring 312 with Sai Sudharsan scoring 100 and Devdutt Padikkal scoring 88. However, the Australian batsmen performed very well in their last innings. Having scored only 107 in the first innings, India found itself on the back foot from the first innings. Mukesh Kumar stood out for India A with a six-wicket haul that restricted Australia A to 195 in their first innings.

The second unofficial test between the two teams will start on November 7 in Melbourne.
