Couple held in Chennai over death of minor household help

Chennai police arrested a couple accused of torturing their minor housekeeper, who was found dead in their home. The suspects, identified as used car dealer Mohammed Nishad and his wife Nasiya, live in Metha Nagar area of Chennai. They employed a 16-year-old girl from Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, as a domestic help after her mother approached Nasiya for help.

On October 31, the couple reportedly found the girl dead in the bathroom. Instead of reporting the incident, they locked the bathroom door and lit incense sticks to mask the smell before going to a relative’s house. Nishad eventually informed Amanjikarai Police about the girl’s death on November 1, but only through his lawyer. The police team came to the scene upon notice, found the body there and sent it to Kilpauk Medical Faculty for autopsy.

Investigation Reveals Disturbing Evidence

Authorities noted that the girl’s body contained burn marks, including injuries consistent with burns from cigarette butts. This alarming discovery led police to call the couple in for questioning. Initial investigations revealed that the couple, along with a friend named Lokesh, allegedly subjected the girl to severe torture on the day she was found dead.

Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigations

Both Nishad and Nasiya have been arrested, and efforts are on to locate Lokesh. Police stated that they are waiting for the autopsy report, which will help determine the cause of death and whether there was a sexual assault. The investigation continues as authorities work to reveal the full extent of the allegations against the couple and their accomplices.
