Hong Kong prison chief vows to stand unafraid of violence after attack on officer

Following a recent gang attack on a civil servant, Hong Kong’s Correctional Services Department (CSD) has vowed to stand unafraid against any violent intimidation after visiting the injured employee.

Correctional Service Commissioner Wong Kwok-hing condemned the violent attack during a visit to United Christian Hospital in Kwun Tong on Sunday and confirmed that the police officer was in a stable condition.

“CSD strongly condemns lawless violence and we believe that the attackers blatantly defied the rule of law and undermined social order,” he said.

“Every employee of the Department of Correctional Services is a professional law enforcement officer and will never be afraid of violent threats.

“CSD will maintain its position and act in accordance with the law to ensure that the institution maintains good order and discipline.

However, Wong refused to say whether the officer was attacked due to a personal feud with the attackers, saying the incident was still under investigation and it was not appropriate to provide further details.

“We will continue to cooperate with police investigations and hope that the perpetrators of this crime are arrested as soon as possible,” he said.
