ALEXANDRA — Gauteng police monitored tense scenes outside a spaza shop in Alexandra Town in northern Gauteng. Johannesburg CBD following the suspected food poisoning death of a child.

This comes after a mother and her two children consumed suspected suspicious snacks on Saturday, November 2, 2024.

Cops appeal for calm after 9-year-old girl Alex dies

According to police, one of the minors, a nine-year-old girl, died. Their mother, Maria Molaudi, and her four-year-old son were reportedly taken to Edenvale Hospital.

Molaudi’s condition remained critical after he reported severe chest and stomach cramps around 7pm on Sunday.

Meanwhile, angry community members gathered at the spaza and damaged the structure, destroying its roof.

News in brief He understands that the shop owner contacted the Alexanda police to file a case for malicious damage to property.

Stores in the area remained closed due to an increasingly unstable situation. Police appealed for calm while investigating an inquest case.

Provincial police spokesman Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said: News in brief Health experts will assist detectives in investigating the incident.

“We formed a team of detectives who worked with other experts to investigate his death,” Nevhuhulwi said.
