Life imprisonment for man who raped his relative

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the life imprisonment sentence handed down by the Giyani District Court to a 31-year-old man for raping his 10-year-old relative.

The court heard the victim’s mother left her daughter with her cousin while she went to a local shop.

“When the mother returned from the store, she found her daughter naked. After interrogating her, she said that the accused took her (her daughter) to the bedroom, forced her private part into her mouth and then raped her.

“The matter was immediately reported to the police and a case of rape was registered and handed over to the Giyani Domestic Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Crimes Unit for further investigations,” the SAPS said in a statement on Saturday. he said.

The case file was assigned to Detective Sergeant Maropeng Mashapa. The defendant was tracked down and successfully arrested.

The accused was sentenced to prison on Thursday for raping his cousin in Phikela village in Giyani on November 13, 2020.

Following police investigations, the defendant was found guilty of all charges against him and sentenced to life imprisonment for rape.
