Does the child refuse to go to school? There is a seminar for this

Education and school are very important in our society and therefore it is alarming when children refuse to go to school.

A child refusing to go to school can be a difficult and stressful situation for anyone, especially parents and caregivers who value education and want to see their child learn and develop.

Hands theFamilyHelpNetwork.ca, in partnership with Parent’s for Children’s Mental Health, is hosting a free webinar on School Refusal on Wednesday, November 6, from 6pm – 7pm.

The webinar is open to families in Muskoka, Nipissing, Parry Sound and Simcoe Counties. You can register for the webinar here .

The webinar, run by the Hands professional Social Work team, will help identify child-related school refusal, what this may look like at different ages and stages of childhood, and why a child or young person may be refusing to go to school. Presenters will discuss tools for assessing school refusal behaviors and the importance of understanding the key concerns that exist to effectively address the issue. Strategies for parents to help their children return to school more regularly will also be discussed.

“Education and school are very important in our society, and so it is concerning that children are refusing to go to school,” said Denise Almeida, Social Worker for Child and Youth Mental Health Services. “When a child refuses to go to school, it creates a difficult situation for parents and carers, as well as for the child himself, teachers and the school.”
