Suspect in ‘unprovoked’ stabbing on BART train arrested

BART police arrested Jovany Portades, the suspect in a stabbing that seriously injured a woman on a BART train Saturday morning.

The 34-year-old was arrested at Fruitvale Station around 2 p.m. Sunday after a station attendant spotted him and notified BART officials.

Authorities said the stabbing was “unprovoked.”

The stabbing occurred Saturday on an Antioch-bound train as it approached the 24th and Mission Street Station in San Francisco.

The station was temporarily closed while police collected evidence.

It was reported that the 54-year-old woman was in serious condition when she was last hospitalized.
