Man arrested after attacking three people, including MNPD officer

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A man was arrested after attacking three people, including a Metro Nashville police officer, according to an arrest affidavit.

Officers responded to Ole Smokey Distillery on 6th Avenue South around 10 p.m. Saturday for complaints of fighting.

When officers arrived at the scene, a security guard told them they had detained a man named Richard Shillinglaw.

The security guard said Shillinglaw was seen fighting with an unknown person, so he tried to break up the fight. It was alleged that Shillinglaw grabbed the security guard in the upper chest and neck area during the intervention. The security guard said they took Shillinglaw to the ground.

The security guard handcuffed Shillinglaw after he tried to attack again, the affidavit said.

Police also spoke with another victim who said Shillinglaw harassed her and her friends. The victim said he threatened to attack her when they asked her to leave them alone.

When Shillinglaw was taken into police custody, he began to resist. While officers were searching for him, he kicked an officer twice and physically struggled against them.

The officer’s watch, valued at $600, was damaged during the fight, the affidavit said.

The affidavit stated that Shillinglaw was drunk.

Shillinglaw was charged with assault, fear of bodily injury and assault on a law enforcement officer and was booked into the Davidson County Jail.
