Man convicted of killing Young Dolph requests new trial

Johnson’s lawyer said an extension to his life sentence would be excessive. He argued that Johnson was never the leader in this crime.

“The people lying on the ground in front of the cookie shop that day were not leaders in the attack. “They were manipulated by others,” defense lawyer Luke Evans said.

However, the prosecution emphasized that Johnson already had multiple aggravated assault convictions and had engaged in extremely criminal behavior and that he was a danger.

“In cases where life-threatening situations other than the victim are at stake, the state will ask you to determine the maximum sentence,” Assistant District Attorney Paul Hagerman said.

On September 26, Johnson was convicted of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and possession of a handgun.
