Colorado’s gray wolves found farther south than where they have been since reintroduction

SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – Gray wolves have been found farther south than ever since their reintroduction, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

their Collared Gray Wolf Activity Map Posted on Oct. 23, CPW said they noticed the gray wolf’s GPS location was south of I-70. CPW said they generally do not release location information for wolves in the state, except for data that will be made public on the fourth Wednesday of the month; However, with this update, they said they wanted to elaborate on the issue because it was the first time the wolves were seen south of I-70.

However, CPW said this activity was expected.

“Translocated wolves are currently exploring the Colorado region, and as wolf population numbers increase, some wolves will migrate to establish new territories,” they said in a statement.

But they add that wolves need food, connection to large wild landscapes and space away from humans to survive. Still, they add, wolves will likely expand over time.

If you think you see a wolf, you can report it. Here at the bottom of the page.
