Arriving in West Palm Beach before Tuesday’s vote brings with it, pardon the cliché, a sense of the calm before the storm. A tropical storm is heading toward Cuba just 90 miles (144 km) off the Florida coast and could bring some pretty severe weather on voting day and Wednesday.

Still, rain, wind or shine, millions of loyal Trump supporters in Florida will try to seize the state’s crucial 30 electoral college votes and the White House in the process.

Since Donald Trump became the candidate in 2016, Latinos have played a key role in Florida’s steady move from a swing state to a solidly conservative state. At least in West Palm Beach, where former President Trump’s residence and luxury resort, Mar-a-Lago, is located.

The area around Mar-a-Lago was already under tight security, particularly after the arrest in September of a gunman who hid in the bushes around Trump’s International Golf Club while playing golf nearby.

That moment and the violence in Butler, Pennsylvania, made this a tumultuous election unlike any in the living memory of the United States.

Now, the storm over Donald Trump’s campaign will blow into the city on Monday, ahead of the former president’s own vote Tuesday morning and a viewing party at the Palm Beach County Convention Center that night.

After weeks and months of continuous campaigning, only two days remain. Trump supporters in West Palm Beach remain optimistic and confident, while Harris supporters are hopeful for rain on her parade.
