– Dehradun: 36 people lost their lives and 27 were seriously injured in the devastating bus accident that took place in Almora district of Uttarakhand. The tragedy took place near Koopi village in Marchula district of Sult tehsil.

According to a senior official, the private bus from Likhwal to Ramnagar was overcrowded with 63 passengers, much more than its capacity. 25 people were injured in the accident, 6 of whom are currently admitted at AIIMS Rishikesh and 5 are in critical condition.

State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Commander Arpan Yaduvanshi said: New Indian Express“We received information about the accident at 08.45 on Monday. 4 SDRF teams were immediately dispatched to the scene. Our personnel rescued the dead and injured by breaking the windows of the unfortunate bus and cutting the iron sheets.”

Almora District Disaster Management Officer Vineet Pal narrated it in his daily: “After receiving the news of the bus accident, rescue agencies swung into action and quickly alerted key teams. State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, revenue department and sub-divisional officer are currently at the scene and we are working together to provide assistance and support to those affected.”

District Magistrate Alok Kumar Pandey said, “The 43-seater bus, operated by Garhwal Motor Owners Association, left Pauri in Garhwal district on Sunday evening and headed towards Ramnagar in Kumaon, about 250 kilometers away.”

Commenting on the accident on Monday morning, Pandey said: “The bus fell 200 meters into a pass in Marchula area of ​​Almora when its destination was just 35 kilometers from Ramnagar.”

Deputy SP Pauri Anuj Kumar said, “Rescue operations are continuing at the accident site and the injured have been referred to Ramnagar Hospital for further treatment.” he said.
