Elkhart man sentenced to prison for robbery and strangulation

An Elkhart man accused of burglary and other violent crimes was sentenced in court last week.

Pedro Portillo, 48, was charged with burglary, strangulation, domestic battery and intimidation for an incident that occurred in June.

The incident allegedly occurred when Portillo entered a house in Elkhart, threatened and beat his ex-fiancée.

Goshen News She said the victim told police she agreed to meet with Portillo, but when she arrived at the house around 11 a.m., he allegedly became physically violent, punched her, forced his way in and out of the house, pulled her hair, strangled her and told her he was going to kill her.

Portillo was sentenced to two years in the Indiana Department of Corrections for Dwelling Entry and Strangulation.

Threatening and Domestic Battery charges were dismissed.
