Chris Martin fell into a hole on stage at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne during a Coldplay concert in Australia, video shows

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin took a dramatic tumble during a show in Australia and then emerged unscathed through a hole in the stage.

Video of the incident posted on social media showed Martin addressing the crowd at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on Sunday, wandering between songs and suddenly disappearing.

His fall appears to be stopped by someone standing below the stage, and Martin soon returns to a standing position.

“This wasn’t planned. Thank you so much for catching me. Thanks guys,” Martin said.

“Damn, that was almost a YouTube moment,” he added.

Martin then continued the show, the fourth and final concert in Melbourne as part of Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres world tour.

The first show in the city was also marked by an unpleasant development as bassist Guy Berryman could not attend due to illness.

“Tonight was the first time in our band’s history that we performed a show without all four members on stage,” Coldplay said in an Instagram post.

“Guy fell unexpectedly ill right before the show. Thank you for getting us through this.”

The band will play four shows in Sydney before moving on to Auckland in New Zealand.

The tour will end with 10 shows at Wembley Stadium in London from 22 August next year.

Martin’s accident followed a similar incident involving the singer Olivia Rodrigo At a recent show at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.

The US pop star was running on stage lit only by a spotlight when she suddenly dove into a hole and appeared to use her arms to catch herself.
