Rajasthan: Rape and murder convict sentenced to death

The local court here on Monday awarded death sentence to a convict in the rape and gruesome murder case of an underage girl in Mavli district in March last year.

POCSO Court-(II) Judge Sanjay Kumar Bhatnagar awarded death penalty to convict Kamlesh and also sentenced his parents to four years imprisonment for destroying evidence and concealing their son’s crime.

A week ago, the court found the main defendant, 21-year-old Kamlesh, and his family guilty.

However, the court postponed the announcement of the sentence until November 4, upon the request of the defendant’s lawyers.

Accordingly, the court today announced that Kamlesh should be sentenced to death penalty and the parents should be sentenced to four years in prison.

However, the court gave the convicts time to object to the decision. The court also granted bail to Kamlesh’s parents pending appeal.

According to the prosecution, the convict took the victim to his home on March 29, 2023, under the pretext of giving her chocolate, raped her there, and then committed extreme cruelty by killing the victim and cutting her body into 10 pieces.

He then threw the body parts into a dilapidated hut in the middle of nowhere. The police, who lodged an FIR regarding the girl’s disappearance at Mavli police station, found the body on April 1, 2023.
