Strathcona County issues tickets and removes vehicles from roads for safety operation

A safety operation in Strathcona County took 40 vehicles off the road in October for violating various requirements.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) inspected 66 commercial vehicles between October 8 and 10. Only 17 percent passed the inspection, the county said Monday.

“Hundreds of commercial vehicles use county roads every day, so ensuring they comply with commercial vehicle requirements is vital to the safety of our roads and everyone who uses them,” said Vito DiSciglio, inspection services manager.

CVSA officers investigated various safety requirements, including tire inflation, secure cargo, valid driver’s license, emergency exits and proper lighting.

Drivers who fail inspection must make repairs and pay any fines. Fines can range from $324 to impounding the vehicle to check whether it is safe on the road.

“We don’t do enforcement just to hand out fines,” DiSciglio said.

“By detecting problems before they become problems, we can prevent potential accidents and help keep everyone traveling on our roads safe.”
